The Gay Wedding Cake

In my book Incoming!, I share the news of my marriage to my partner. We got married in 2012 in Canada before it was recognized in the United States. At that point in our lives, we were together for 14 years.

What happened to human rights superseding religious beliefs? There’s over 4,000 religions in the world. What makes his religious belief more superior over others? Or that segment of the Bible that also clearly states that one should not judge. What makes this Christian baker AND the U.S. Supreme Court think that his religious belief overpowers a human right? The decision is remarkably narrow and hard to see the decision setting a precedent. What if the baker were an emergency doctor with the same belief? Or a parent that doesn’t belief in science or technology to heal an ailing child? What about a Muslim who believes in honor killing a family member for tarnishing their name if their child has premarital sex, does not were a Shayla, commits adultery, or comes out of the closet as gay? How far will the Supreme Court compromise on religious beliefs?

If a business man or woman want to discriminate against gays, don’t stop with the wedding cake. Consider the clothing you’re wearing. It’s highly likely it was designed by some fabulous gay designer. And don’t be wearing mixed fibers! That’s also against religious belief in the Bible. Don’t buy an Apple computer or iPhone. The CEO of Apple is gay. Microsoft apps? Gee … better not use those either because the Gates Foundations supplies HIV medications and programs around the globe to rebound the (gay) epidemic to combat the infection. By using an Apple product or Microsoft product, you’ll be guilty by association! That beautifully designed house you want? Probably designed by a gay architect. The landscaping too. Maybe even being marketed by a gay realtor. Forget about going out for dinner and a show … more than likely your server or cook is gay, the performers are gay, and an actor or two are gay. Do you get the point now?

If you’re using your religion to hate and discriminate, then maybe it’s time you find a new religion. As stated earlier, there’s a selection of over 4,000 of them to choose from. If you choose to stick with your religion and selectively hate and discriminate, then I would suggest you might as well stay home … in the closet … in the dark. I’ve been there, done that hiding my sexual orientation. We don’t want to trigger any dirty or bad thoughts into your head or life. I guess, after all, you can’t have your cake and eat it too!
